Tentang Pengarang:
 Amy Tan dilahirkan di Oakland, California, tahun 1952, dua setengah tahun setelah orangtuanya berimigrasi ke Amerika Serikat. Walaupun orangtuanya mengharapkan dia memilih profesi sebagai dokter saraf dan pianis konser sebagai hobi, dia menjadi konsultan program bagi anak-anak terbelakang, kemudian menjadi penulis freelance. Dia mengunjungi Cina untuk pertama kalinya di tahun 1987. Amy Tan menyandang gelar master linguistik dari San Jose State University. Esai-esainya telah dimuat dalam majalah Life, The state of Language, dan The Threepenny Review. Cerpen-cerpennya sering mengisi The Atlantic, Grand Street, Lear`s McCall`s dan majalah-majalah lain.
