			'description' => 'Eka Kurniawan lahir di sebuah desa, dua jam dari Tasikmalaya, 28 November 1975 dan tinggal di sana dengan keempat kakek-neneknya. Desa itulah yang menjadi pijakan awal O Anjing. Beberapa bahan lainnya diperoleh dari tempat lain: ia mengikuti orangtuanya tinggal di perkebunan karet di Cilacap, sebelum mereka pindah lagi ke kota kecil Pangandaran.Di kota itulah, tepatnya ketika masuk SMPN 1 Pangandaran, keinginan untuk menulis pertama kali muncul. Barangkali didorong oleh perkenalannya dengan buku bacaan yang disewakan oleh taman bacaan yang berkeliling dengan sepeda. Puisi pertamanya muncul di majalah anak-anak Sahabat. Ia juga menulis cerpen-cerpen lucu untuk dibaca teman-temannya. Sekolahnya dilanjutkan ke SMAN 1 Tasikmalaya dan tinggal bersama bibinya. Di sana ia lebih banyak di perpustakaan sekolah, menulis di rumah (ayahnya menghadiahinya mesin tik portable karena berhasil meraih lima besar lulusan terbaik) hingga kemudian ia merasa bosan. Ia memulai perjalanan selama berminggu-minggu melintasi kota-kota hingga Jakarta, kemudian berbelok ke timur melewati Cirebon, Tegal, dan Purwokerto. Ketika ia kembali, sekolah telah mengeluarkannya. Ia kembali ke Pangandaran dan masuk SMA PGRI, satu-satunya sekolah yang mau menerimanya tanpa harus mengulang kelas. Selama empat semester ia berhasil mempertahankan ranking pertama tanpa kehilangan kegemarannya untuk membolos; ia suka menjelajahi daerah-daerah sekitar. Tempat favoritnya adalah rawa-rawa Segara Anakan (tempat Nusa Kambangan berada), pelabuhan Cilacap, gua-gua peninggalan Jepang dan mulai mencoba menulis cerita-cerita tentang itu semua. Beberapa bahan lainnya diperoleh dari tempat lain: ia mengikuti orangtuanya tinggal di perkebunan karet di Cilacap, sebelum mereka pindah lagi ke kota kecil Pangandaran.Di kota itulah, tepatnya ketika masuk SMPN 1 Pangandaran, keinginan untuk menulis pertama kali muncul. Barangkali didorong oleh perkenalannya dengan buku bacaan yang disewakan oleh taman bacaan yang berkeliling dengan sepeda. Puisi pertamanya muncul di majalah anak-anak Sahabat. Ia juga menulis cerpen-cerpen lucu untuk dibaca teman-temannya. Sekolahnya dilanjutkan ke SMAN 1 Tasikmalaya dan tinggal bersama bibinya. Di sana ia lebih banyak di perpustakaan sekolah, menulis di rumah (ayahnya menghadiahinya mesin tik portable karena berhasil meraih lima besar lulusan terbaik) hingga kemudian ia merasa bosan. Ia memulai perjalanan selama berminggu-minggu melintasi kota-kota hingga Jakarta, kemudian berbelok ke timur melewati Cirebon, Tegal, dan Purwokerto. Ketika ia kembali, sekolah telah mengeluarkannya. Ia kembali ke Pangandaran dan masuk SMA PGRI, satu-satunya sekolah yang mau menerimanya tanpa harus mengulang kelas. Selama empat semester ia berhasil mempertahankan ranking pertama tanpa kehilangan kegemarannya untuk membolos; ia suka menjelajahi daerah-daerah sekitar. Tempat favoritnya adalah rawa-rawa Segara Anakan (tempat Nusa Kambangan berada), pelabuhan Cilacap, gua-gua peninggalan Jepang dan mulai mencoba menulis cerita-cerita tentang itu semua. Seusai sekolah ia melanjutkan ke Fakultas Filsafat di Universitas Gadjah Mada, tempat ia berharap akan bertemu banyak orang yang bisa mengajarinya menulis.
